Watermelon wheat beer. Doesn’t that sound good? It is! But what should we call it? We get some of our recipe ideas for beer from what’s in season. But we get our names from a secret source. Many names were proposed for our watermelon wheat beer. Many discarded. A few we liked.
One was Meloncholy—a mash-up (no pun intended!) of Melon and melancholy. That led to the 1995 album by the Smashing Pumpkins called “Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”
(Cool album, btw. And pumpkins and watermelons are both in the same plant family. So there’s that.)
We had watermelon, we had melancholy and we had an album. But how about wheat? Back to the album. Eureka!
Please welcome: Melon Collie and the Infinite Seedless Watermelon Wheat (ABV 5.5%) An American Wheat made with South Carolina watermelons, the balanced watermelon sweetness and bitterness from the rind make the beer very drinkable.
Wait until you try some.
